How to Apply

To apply for Graduate School in the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences at Washington State University, please complete each of the following steps:

  1. WSU Graduate School Application (http://www.gradsch.wsu.edu/howtoapply.htm):  The $50.00 application fee must be attached to the Graduate School application. It cannot be waived or deferred.
  2. Statement of Professional Goals: This document can be uploaded to the online application form. Please address such issues as interests, anticipated thesis research or areas of research interest, career objectives, experiences in research and teaching, and financial ability.
  3. GRE scores:
    Soil Science: required for all applicants
    Crop Science: highly recommended
    for all applicants
    No minimum- all scores will be compared to those of other students in the applicant pool.   Have official scores sent to the Graduate School (WSU Institutional Code 4705, department code 0). It is helpful (but not required) to include electronic copies of your scores with your application materials (updated 10/21/09).
  4. Official TOEFL, IELTS, or MELAB scores (international students only): These scores need to be submitted directly to the Graduate School from the testing service (WSU Institutional Code 4705). Check English proficiency requirements for specific test score requirements. It is helpful (but not required) to send electronic copies of your scores with your application materials.
  5. Three letters of recommendation: Please have the e-mail addresses of your recommenders ready when you fill out the online Graduate School application. Each recommender will be contacted directly through e-mail and their letters will be sent directly to the Graduate School. Do not submit these letters yourself, even in sealed envelopes or they cannot be accepted.
  6. Official Transcripts:  Applicants should order an official set of transcripts from each university-level school attended. These must be sent directly to the Dean of the Graduate School by the registrar of the institution at which work was done.
