Research
Seek, evaluate, and introduce new crops for irrigated or irrigated dry land rotations in central Washington. Develop and adapt cultural practices and water stress on physiology and quality of alternate and specialty crops including measurement of stress symptoms, determination of yield limiting factors and quality control. Investigate the relationships between management and physiology of rapeseed/canola with emphasis on yield, quality and the impacts of that crop to other traditional crops grown in the area. Read more.
Other research goals are: ·
- Select new dry bean, azuki and edamame varieties and research on variety release, production and management in Washington.
- Seek oil crops for high quality oil for edible market and food processing industry as well as raw materials for renewable source of bioenergy facility.
- Seek new oil crops as rotational and potential cover crops for Washington growers to increase their production while minimizing input and conserving natural resources..
- Seek high Omega-3 fatty acid producing crops for high quality oil market.
